  • Do you work with [blank] module/inverter type etc?

With over 30 years of combined field experience on our team, the answer is likely yes, we have experience installing the product you want or have. Not all product warranties require a certification to work with them, so for a CV of familiar or BDE preferred equipment click here. For a short list of our certified partnerships you can see our about us tab. We are constantly seeking learning opportunities and our electricians and technicians are qualified to work with many products, so if you do not see your dream system components listed, give us a call! We can discuss options, and maybe we just haven’t updated our site to list!

  • How do I go off-grid?

Whether you are looking to build a home where the utilities cannot reach you, or you already are off-grid but want to power your homestead with solar and batteries, we can help you. Our team is ready to help you assess your energy usage, share efficiency improvement options, provide load calculations, and find the best combination of solar, storage, and back-up generation necessary to keep you running in any of the difficult Colorado climates.

If you have an existing system and are looking to get it serviced or optimized, we can help with a diagnostic or survey visit as well.

  • How long do solar panels last?

Solar is a big investment, and you want to know that the product you receive is going to be around. Fortunately these days, most manufacturers offer a 25 year lifetime production warranty. Typically the industry standard expectation is in that 25-30 year range. And we have seen systems working well into this age and longer. There is a natural degradation of efficiency over time, but as we approach the end of that timeline is when reinvesting in new modules might make sense. We can help you determine whether the production in the “afterlife,” or the new products out will be better for you. Service is our first priority, not sales, so we will never suggest wasteful replacements.

  • How does solar help me during blackouts?

Solar panels produce electricity whenever the sun is out. But if you are tied to the grid, the system is required by code to disconnect if the grid is down. This is intended to protect the linemen working on repairing your utility line. But, if you are looking for a power alternative to the grid on those occasions when it fails, a hybrid system with battery backup will be needed. We have a number of whole-home and partial battery backup solutions that we can discuss with you that remain compliant with these anti-islanding policies while still providing you some grid independence.

  • What is your workmanship warranty?

Burning Daylight and its team stand by our work. That is why we offer a 10 year workmanship warranty. Further details can be found in your contract documents or by reaching out to us for more information.

  • How do I know what my solar is doing?

Our technicians will walk you through the monitoring process at the end of an install if you are available, otherwise we are available by phone to discuss the apps needed and your access. Additionally, as a Burning Daylight customer, you will be automatically included in our fleet monitoring, with a technician noting any error codes that may arise over the life of the system. So you can rest easy knowing if you are not paying the solar any mind, we are still looking out for you.

  • Do you provide other electrical services?

Our installation team includes electricians who are fully licensed and able to provide other services from installing an electric car charger or a new outlet, to wiring an ADU. Give us a call to see if we can help you with any energy concerns.

  • I cannot get a hold of my installer, do you service other companies’ installations?

We frequently onboard existing systems and bring them up to proper operational states. Give us a call for a quote and we will get you properly situated with safe, working solar!

  • What areas do you service?

We are proudly owned and operated in Colorado Springs, Colorado, but we happily travel all across Southern Colorado and the Front Range.

  • I don’t want solar on my roof, do you do ground mounts?

Yes, we install ground mounted systems. While the roof is often the most cost-effective place to install solar, sometimes there are benefits to installing a ground mount. Our solar experts can help you determine whether your roof is a good fit or if there is a sunnier side of the lot that would better suit a solar array.

  • I bought a home with solar, what does this mean for me?

We recommend checking with the original installer for warranty and design information, but if you are unable to reach them or otherwise, our service technicians can provide a system inspection to ensure your new home solar is safe and functioning properly. If there are any issues, often they can be resolved on the same visit. If the fix is more involved, our techs will walk you through what is needed and can explore next steps with you.

  • I am selling my home with solar, what do I need to do?

We recommend reaching out to your original installer if not BDE, but if they are unreachable or otherwise, our service technicians can provide a detailed system inspection to ensure your solar is safe and functioning properly for the new owners. If there are any issues, often they can be resolved on the same visit. If the fix is more involved, our techs will walk you through what is needed and can explore next steps with you.

You will also want to reach out to your utility to confirm what is needed from them.

  • Do you service or install solar hot water?

We do not currently provide any solar hot water system maintenance or installation. If you are having trouble finding a technician, feel free to reach out and we may be able to help find a partner that can help!

  • The other guy said I would never have an electric bill again, is that true?

Generally speaking, solar will reduce your bill and our target is always zero (or overproduction as allowed by local utilities). But solar has variance in production. There will be months that you don’t reach your production goals and draw from the utility. If you choose to work with us for your installation, our technicians will walk you through local restrictions and how to maximize production so that on average your bill is as low as possible and you see credits from your utility. If you have an existing system from another installer that is consistently underproducing, our technicians can perform a diagnostic visit to determine the cause and what optimizations you might be able to do to get the most out of your renewable energy source. There is also always the option to explore battery storage options to capture overproduction when you do not need it and save it for a rainy day.

Additionally, some people are told if the grid goes down, they will still have power. This is only true if you have whole-home backup from solar with storage. Perhaps you were also told the system is EMP resistant. Some manufacturers offer products that are tested and rated for this, but most do not. Be sure to discuss your expectations with any installer. At Burning Daylight we feel it is just as important that you feel like an expert in your system when we leave, so we will take the time and make an effort to ensure you are comfortable during the whole process.
